Tech for beneath-the-surface research

Slides from a talk by Hen Wilkinson, 2022

These slides share two innovative examples of how technology has been used to research out-of-sight feelings and dynamics in individuals and groups. The talk formed part of an IPTN panel presentation at the Conflict Research Society conference in Belfast, 2022.

Using tech for research HW

The first tool - a way of visualising energy shifts in groups using qualitative data - was an output of Hen Wilkinson's PhD research. Her research interests stemmed from 20 years as a conflict practitioner in urban areas in the UK, drawing on international conflict transformation frames. You can read her PhD here: From Conflict to Sustainability: engaging with the space between.

The second tool was designed to provoke internal reflection and exploration in individuals, and incorporated an online data collection instrument which to allow participants to record their responses in their own words.
